We have long been concerned about the length of Day 3 of our traditional High Country Heritage Tour (which is a 6 day tour) so from March 2018 we have been running it as a 7 day trip. The basics have not altered that much at all in that it's still a tour down the high country of the South Island from Blenheim to Cardrona.
Day 1 finishes at Hanmer Springs after an afternoon on iconic Molesworth Station and Day 2 finishes in Methven. The Difference comes in that Day 3 starting in Methven will finish in Geraldine. This should be quite early around 4 pm. The idea is to offer the options of visiting several local attractions such as the Vintage Tractor & Car Museum or the opportunity to just wander about the lovely wee town or have a bit of a rest. Nothing organised until dinner at 7.30pm. Day 4 will then set off from Geraldine and get straight into our route up the Orari River Gorge. The afternoon will take in the Macauley River Valley at the head of Lake Tekapo if the river conditions are suitable. Otherwise the trip will include the McKenzie Pass and high country sheep station near Lake Tekapo. Our overnight will be in Twizel. Subsequent days are unaltered from the normal 6 day format with overnights in Omarama, Cromwell and Cardrona.
