Big Sky Tour

Our new 6 day tour for 2018. Big Sky will be NZ Adventures first 6 day tour outside the ever popular High Country Heritage. A slightly harder more off road orientated trip Big Sky is designed to incorporate many of the scenic and pastoral highlights of South Canterbury / Central Otago region in one fantastic tour.

Brief trip overview. The tour will meet in Fairlie for a welcome and safety briefing on the evening prior to departure.

Day One. We leave Fairlie and head into the Hunter Hills with a picnic lunch. From here the trip will go into the Mackenzie Basin and the Hakataramea Valley before driving to our overnight in Omarama.

Day Two. From Omarama we travel over the Omarama Saddle Track West Branch or the rougher wetter options of the saddle in that area. The afternoon takes us over a new track in the Dunstan Mountains . Overnight is in Cromwell.

Day Three. We travel North to the Old Lindis Hotel and then onto the Lindis Range heading towards Wanaka. With views of the Upper Clutha River valley and the beautiful Lindis Range along the way. The afternoon takes us onto and along the eastern slopes of the Pisa Range before we descend into the Cardrona Valley. Overnight at the Cardrona Hotel.

Day Four. We will travel through Tobins Track down into Arrowtown and up and back into Historic Macetown. The afternoon will see us take an old wagon track into Alexandra where we will overnight.

Day Five. We head up into the Old Man Range and head along the highest landform in the south of the island. We visit old Gold mining areas and again enjoy spectacular views down into Southland and West Otago. Lunch is on a large sheep and cattle property near Roxburgh. In the afternoon we again enjoy rough tracks in West Otago before returning to Alexandra for our overnight.

Day Six. We drive into the Hawkdun and St. Mary's ranges on the boundary of Canterbury & Otago. Rough High Tracks offer expansive views in all directions from some of New Zealands highest goldfields while the tracks ocassionaly drop down into river gorges crossing deeply dissected alpine plateaus . Our final night is in Alexandra.
